Looking at photos of the ground invasion into Gaza by the Israeli Army I was curious as to what all the soldiers had on their helmets. I thought it might be some new super secret technology but.........no, just good old fashioned common sense.

It's called a mitznefet, which loosely translated means clown hat. It is used strictly to break up the silhouette of a soldiers helmet. One side is a woodland green pattern, the other a more desert tan pattern. Its made of a cheap mesh material. Simple, cheap, effective, and a great friend / foe identifier. (and we all know how bad I need that  ) Got to love the Israelis. Their only criteria is "Does it work?"

Sigh, i am sure the US Army will now be buying $300 pillow cases for us to wear on our heads. But if it works, give me the shoes, the nose, and the spinning bow tie, I'm in.

I've been looking at alot of pics concerning the Israeli/Hamas conflict and I have seen several various camo patterns of the mitznefet that look pretty effective. I also ran across one (wish I had saved it now) where an IDF soldier was running and the mitznefet had draped across in front of his eyes :D

Does anyone know what the standard issue IDF rifle is? I've seen several different pics, everything from the M4 to a Bulpup style something. :?:

I believe the M4 and the Tavor are the two issued rifles for the IDF.

From the photos I have seen of the current conflict it has mostly been M4's in various configs. with the occassionaly smattering of the IWI Tavor. I'm guessing the the Tavor numbers are still limited...
