Hey guys...I think I've made one or two references to my recent injury on here but I am having a pretty involved surgery on my knee in the morning. November 21 of this year I twisted my knee walking down a little incline and torqued the joint so hard that that the stress on my leg broke my ankle just above the joint. The ankle has pretty much healed but the knee has not responded well to PT so a second MRI shows that I have torn the ligament that holds my kneecap in place as well as having torn cartilage and making various other tears in my quads.

At any rate, in my online search of all this I ran across this photo. Don't mean to gross anybody out but I thought several in this crowd would find this interesting as I did.

Here's what they are going to do to me:

It will be four weeks before I can even bend it but I'll be weight bearing on it in 4-5 days. I will have an immobilizer on which will keep it straight so I'll be a "peg leg". The doc says I should be able to get back to doing anything I want to do after healing and PT. I'm shooting for the first of April to be back trading paint.

You guys be sure and post about your games as that makes it easier for me.
BTW...I appreciate you guys more than you could know. I visit here daily and really enjoy being a part of this community. Thanks to all who contribute!

Hearing about what you did makes me hurt more than the image. Ouch. :? I'm sure everything will work out, though! Here's hoping the meat magician you get is a good one. :)

Too bad we aren't machines... or at least bionic - just pop on a new one and you're good to go.

it sucks, one of my friends tore her ACL and they had to do that same surgery, it was around 6 months before she could put weight on it. Good Luck man!

Hey guys...thanks for the encouraging words. I've had a good day just hanging out here with my family. I'm going to pray one more time and hit the crib to prepare for the long day tomorrow. Hopefully next time you hear from me I'll be repaired. Again, Happy New Year to all of you!

Keeping you in my prayers, Groundhog. Hang in there; you'll be up and running around and shooting at Windwalker again in no time!

Spoke to groundhog just now and his surgery went fine. He's now sitting at home on the couch, enjoying the pain meds from surgery :)

Here's to a speedy recovery GH

HE'S ALIVE!!! Thanks to God for bringing me through! Thanks to all who were thinking about me and praying!

Turns out I had two tears in the cartilage. He fixed those with a scope and then cut about 5 inches up and down my kneecap to fix the tearing in the muscles/ligaments. That's the surgery I showed above. Since my first knee surgery in '79 (this one is my fourth) someone has come up with this fabulous little ball full of pain medicine they use on these larger incisions. My other two were just scopes and I was back walking on them in a couple of days and did not have a lot of pain. Anyway, they put a small tube in your hip joint and it just feeds pain meds continuously on the nerve going into your leg for about 3 days and blocks the pain from there down. What a great idea! Don't get me wrong...there's still pain but tolerable pain. I am on oral stuff too so I hope this makes as much sense to you as it does to me. Based on the vasectomy thread..I think I'd rather have knee surgery! Gotta go...I think I'm about to take a nap...time for more meds.
