Hello to all. I'm a Correctional Officer working in Northern Virginia and have been looking for a stress reliever. I've been driving long hours along the information highway here, carefully picking apart what I wish to do. I've been leaning towards Airsoft, mostly for the milsim realism (and some of the pricing helps). However I totally don't wish to abandon paintball, either...just some of the markers are a bit expensive. Hopefully I can get some tips and a bit of guidance on these forums.

You've come to the right place either way, so Welcome :)

I've never played AS, so I will let others who play both chime in.

Well airsoft and paintball are both really fun and I play both. The thing is Airsoft to me is less realistic, because people play with guns that shoot at blazing speeds just as fast as a candy colored tournament paintball gun. As a paintballer, when I play airsoft, I am often confused when when I am shot on the back when I am wearing a vest, I don't know if it was just some strap coming loose or some random tree bark, or was it a airsoft shot? Paintball is much more realistic because there is usually always pain involved. Which if course is fun. Milsim paintballers usually shoot guns that do not shoot at blazing speeds but at realistic rates of fire.

Also which sport do you have access to. Like what is closer and more plentiful? Airsoft or Paintball fields? Where I live, there are much more airsoft fields then there are woodsball fields. Also they are closer too, so that is why I am starting to play airsoft more. But if you are able to see yourself driving to a paintball field over a weekend with no hassle then that should be fine.

Welcome to the Empire. As someone that plays paintball and has looked into Airsoft the guns, in Canada anyways, are cheaper for paintball. The average GOOD TM gun can easily run you over $1000 in Canada where the Tippmann X7 is still under $300.
Good luck.
